Writing Ideas
Finding inspiration can be a dilemma leaving many would-be-writers with blank pages, so stifling their emerging talent. As a suggestion, I find it helps to take three random words then scribble down whatever springs to mind concerning the words, then think to yourself 'But what if?' then take your writing from that point. Alternatively, select a line from a book, a phrase or comment from the radio or television or a snatch of conversation on a bus and take the same approach. Inspiration is out there, it is up to us to find it. Paul Chafer.

Roaming rails and streets
(on weathered wheels or feet)
old tin cans clang allegory;
With ham and eggs and ale in kegs
balloons spark childhood glories;
Just wondering while you're wandering:
bold breaths breathe living stories...

Jackie,
Yes, great, that's the kind of thing I mean. I too acquire inspiration from books (I too have lots of time to read.) and it's amazing the kind of work one can produce from the simplest ideas gained from one line in a book.
Paul.

I have only just joined the site so I am a newcomer but it is looking like what I want so I am hoping to be able to put some of my writing up on it soon and I get a lot of my ideas from books (I read a lot - lots of time on my hands). I read the start of a book and then I go off and write from where they started - take it in my own direction as it were. It seems to work for me and I can then go back to my book and it is rreally interesting to see what is it the writer did with it themselves.

Yes Jon, swapping ideas is the best idea, but don't be so hard on yourself about not being able to write short stories, if the interest is there, the only way to make it grow is to try and write one. Our first efforts are never much good, even though we think they are, but only by trying can we improve. 'never give in', is a good maxim, and it can be applied to anything, even attempting to write a short story.

The other day I was walking along (well shuffling and trying to walk!) and I heard this commotion behing me and then this high pitched girl's voice said, if you ever, ever do that again Amy Richardson (have changed names just in case) I'll do you.
This struck me as a great start to something but I'm not so good at story writing. I'll have a go but if anyone else wants to use it then feel free. Maybe we could use this site as a sort of swap shop ideas wise?

To let you all know - I have a free anthology of poetry (booklets) something I've always wanted to do. From various on-line published and unpublished authors - it was a challenge! If you'd like a free copy please contact on-line. I'm hoping to to another one.

Hi Paul
thanks for that one, i'll give it a go. Being a nosy sod I get much inspiration from listening to the conversations behind me on the bus or at the next table in the pub (can drive my mates a bit mad though!)
Sometimes you just get such good one liners you just want to dash home and get writing - helps to carry pen and pad but have to be discreet!
