About my Newsletters In February ’09 – my newsletter “All Kinds of Everything” will be two years old and in April ’09 “Tony's Newsletter” will be one year old – I’m really happy that I have both newsletters up and running because both of them are doing well and I get to know so many people. This website “Disability Writers” give me the confidence to keep writing and take all the comments that I got on board – because of that, I work that bit harder on my writing, I’m also very proud to be published on it! Through this website – I had Dr Todd Harris and Paul Chafer along with others on the website – write for “All Kind of Everything” and “Tony's Newsletter” which I’m so proud of!! I would like to take this time to thank each and every one of those people who wrote for me and a big thank you to this website for publishing my work. Shirley Casey from Ireland

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to all Hello All - hope you are well !! During holiday times sometimes despair displaces joy.... Celebrating oneself Laughing through tears Crying though smiling Talking through fears Looking while wondering Hearing while writing Sensing while walking Testing while fighting One’s breaths boast briefly One’s boasts breath broadly One’s chances come singly Sometimes faith renews oddly hoping that next year brings smiles, satisfactions, family connections, better directions, exciting drives, improved new lives...... your American friend, Dr. Todd

| About my Newsletter I’m working on putting together a newsletter called “All Kinds of Everything” which will come out every two months, March/April newsletter is out and now I’m working on May/June. I would like to ask the people of this website if anybody would like to see their work in printed in this, please feel free to send it to me. If any of the stuff or any of the writers would like to common on this, pleases do so I’m open to any commons that you may have. I have put this form onto this website before and called this newsletter “Disability Ireland” and I get no commons on it, I feel is because of the name of this is putting people off but maybe I’m wrong. I have chosen the name “All Kinds of Everything” because I think and feel is better & niceness, also the name “Disability Ireland” put me off working on it a little bit because of the way I – myself feel about my own disability as I wrote about and put it on this website as a form called “The Way I Feel”. | The way I feel! Some times I get very annoyed over the disability that I have, when I was 2 and half, I got meningitis and my mother was told that I wouldn’t be able to walk or talk again and I would end up in a wheelchair, I’m able to walk with out a problem and talk to people fine. I have a learning disability and went to a special school, while I was at school, I did get speech therapy and when I was 19 I moved up to Dublin in September ’92, I had more speech therapy in Trinity College in 1994/’95 for about six months to a year and again November 2001 for a about months or so but I do get annoyed and so angry with people ‘coz of the way they look at people with any kinds of disability, lot of people look only at the disability & not beyond it to see the person for who they really are. I wrote a poem called “I’m a Real Person” and the reason that I wrote this poem was because I felt and think, I still think & feel this way. I’m a Real Person I’m somebody with a disability But a person first A person who had a voice Which nobody understood The person behind this mask Found it hard to commanded Knowing what I wanted to say But nobody would listen Hid behind this disability Which was only a label? But I am a real person Which nobody could see! I can be ashamed of the disability that I have and other times I’m ok, do anybody else feel this way and get annoyed & angry with the disability that they have and do anybody get annoyed and angry with people and the way they look at people with disabilities? | Newsletter Called “Disability Ireland” I’m working on putting together a newsletter for people with all kinds of disabilities here in Ireland ‘coz that is nothing like a newsletter, booklet or website for anybody with a disability over here in Ireland or nothing like that for disability writer’s to get their work published & see it in print! I would like to ask the people of this website if anybody would like their work printed in this newsletter that I’m putting together here in Ireland; my newsletter will be called “Disability Ireland”. I would tell people about “Just Writer’s website & how I get my poems published on it, I would give out the website address to people so they can have a look at it but I though people of this website would like to get some of their work published over here in Ireland in “Disability Ireland”! If any of the stuff would like to common on this, pleases do so I’m open to any commons that you may have. If anybody would like to their work to be printed in “Disability Ireland”, please feel free & send it to me by email which is dadmyhero2002@yahoo.com Shirley Casey - Ireland |

Hungry for feedback! He every one, I was wondering why I haven't heard from our 2 Liz's, then read the bit about applying for funding. I have to say I really appreciated their feed back on my work and their feedback on others. Was teaching me a lot. I really hope the funding goes well and they don't choke on all our home baked (or half baked) efforts when things get back to normal. If you need any support in the form of testimonials etc please get back to us. I'm sure we would all be very keen to help etc.

Keep This site Alive, and Dwell - share wits & words I submitted this poem but then realized there might be just empty space acting as respondent. We must not become rare as Resplendent Quetzels !! Our perquisite lies in our acquiantance. So login, laugh and lounge a bit. I also think there should be a forum for our fortuitous experiences as writers. On October 20, 2006, Tadeu Coelho's (www.tadeucoelho.com) commission of my music and poetry will be performed by him and others at Santa Clara University. So please write.... October's Wings Striped honeybees, commuting light protecting all, procuring foods From garden beds, tall trees tonight bravely banding building broods Daisies' light, red-pollened rose soft-shadowed limbs, warm waning sun Zestful flights, well skylit roads no time's quixotic 'til Harvest's done Honey ripens with wax-stiff weeds Spring tractors soon sow September's seas Come caller winds, October's seed For life's spell, We flowers brandish breeze...

About a Book For people who suffer from depression have a bully in their head or you can call it the inner bully. When I get attack of depression & I go into a world of darkness, it’s freighting. All I what to do is to lie in bed & cover my head – lot that inner bully take over! There is a book called “Overcoming Depression” by Paul Gilbert & it’s a very good book, I found when I took it up & began to read parts of it, the parts that I did read was very turn but now I look and think about depression in a different way now, it also learn from it that my inner bully that I have in my head is some one from my pass & who are still alive. This is a really good book & if people can get this book in England, it would be a really buy – I paid about 15 Euro for it here in Ireland & I don’t how it would over there in England!

Parnerships Are you looking to write your 'short fictional stories' and other ideas with another writer? I would like to work together with someone who has an excellent command of written English and plotting stories but who struggles with writers block and your imaginative flow and/or dialogue and characterization. I am Dyslexic/Dyspraxic and I have a over active imagination trying to get out also I have a good command of dialogue, characters, vocabulary and humour in my stories. I have had a few articles and letters published and trying to crack the short story market and have an idea for a book. I like the idea of working in 'Partnership' with another person or more by email. Do let me know what you think?

To Be a Part of Something It’s nice to be a part of a website/group and share my poetry with others, even do this website is over in England and I live here in Ireland but I feel that I got to know some people through this website by reading their work. It have been good for me to be a part of it ‘coz my writing has come a long way and it have improve so much too. Since my poetry got published on this website back in January 2006 and had more published after that, it made me work harder on my writing. Summer of 1992, I wrote my first poem called “The Snow Man” and kept on writing but never worked as hard, I waiting for 13 years to get published and since I get published of this year, I have worked really hard on my writing ‘coz I have proving to myself and to others that I can write a poem, story or a book as good as anybody.

I would like to thank... I would like to thank the disability rights staff for all their help with teaching me creative writing. They have helped turned something that was a hobby into a passion! Members comments had been inspirational. Most of all, I would like to thank my personal assistants, (carers) Tracy and Justine. It was not until they were in my employment that I became relaxed enough to even contemplate having a go at Creative Writing. For this very reason I would like to dedicate all my writing that I have had published on this website to them. Thank you Tracy and Justine!

| The Writing Challenge on The Home Page This new entry on the home page inspired me to write a new poem, 'If Today was Born by Thunder", and I hope that everyone will give this a whirl - The 'writing challenge' offers fresh food for thought in a world where idea-noshes are sometimes somewhat scarce...... | Keeping going I am getting so much from this site - much more than just the confidence to write again and to feel its worth bothering cos there is someone (or lots of people) out there who care to take the time to tell me what they think of what I write - and that is something ace to me. I'm also getting so much from reading what other people write and understanding (or at least having the chance to try) what they go through and all that. That is so good and I just thought as I travelled round the site today well why not tell everyone and make a new topic on this forum in case anyone wants to reply to this - what is now becoming a bit long and perhaps vague? |

Good Books I thought it might be interesting to use the forum to share the titles of the books we read and enoy. I am an avid reader and likewise, I have discovered many on this site also love to read. For those of you that like off the wall humour, I find Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett and Tom Sharpe, fit the bill. All three are witty, interesting and show life from unusual viewpoints that we ordinary mortals might never consider. For those who like a little fantasy – of the sorcery type – I think Robin Hobbs Farseer Trilogy and Trudi Canavan’s Black Magician Trilogy are exceptionally good reading, easy on the mind with stories, characters and plots that are self involving and brilliantly conceived. For those who enjoy historic tales of adventure the Bernard Cornwell books about English history are gripping and exciting if a little, slightly contrived. While there is one Wilbur Smith book ‘River God’ that deals with ancient Egypt in such a way that you feel you are actually there. However, don’t bother with the sequels, they are, in my opinion, way over the top. The good thing about all these books is that they are available in a lot of charity shops and second hand book stalls for 50p or a couple of pound. As they provide hours and hours of engrossing entertainment, real VFM. What I wish to know is, what do you read?

Writing Ideas Finding inspiration can be a dilemma leaving many would-be-writers with blank pages, so stifling their emerging talent. As a suggestion, I find it helps to take three random words then scribble down whatever springs to mind concerning the words, then think to yourself 'But what if?' then take your writing from that point. Alternatively, select a line from a book, a phrase or comment from the radio or television or a snatch of conversation on a bus and take the same approach. Inspiration is out there, it is up to us to find it. Paul Chafer.

publishing Can anyone tell me. If a story is published here does it mean it can't be published elsewhere? Might sound stupid - but - is publishing on the web the same as "Publishing?"

This forum, our writing I've been on a browse around today and its so ace to read all the comments being added to our writing bits. (Thanks for those sent about mine by the way - cool and encouraging!) With that in mind I just thought it would be another forum topic about how we find the feedback from each other and anything that we might want as individual writing geezers from each other. Any thoughts anyone out there? Ta 4 'listening' jf

This is great I've just been on my first tour of the site, made some comments on people's writing in the publications area and thought there was some really cool writing. Thought this topic bit could be about general stuff like what we think of the site, each others work and that sort of stuff. Really ace.

Getting going Sometimes I want to write and I just can't get going. I read all these things about how you must write a bit every day but it just doesn't work for me. What I find does help is to forget about writing all together and perhaps wash up (yes, really). When I suspend my thought they start to flow, so I have a dictaphone near the washing up bowl so I can just speak whatever I'm thinking. Works for me ...
